Many children in Liberia are so poor they hardly ever smile. They come from really poor homes in poor places. Imagine this: something as simple as school supplies or a pair of shoes could make these kids really happy.
These kids’ eyes narrate tales of struggle, tales of surviving in disadvantaged communities, and tales of hailing from destitute homes.
The Youth Empowerment Initiatives (YEI) has taken up the mantle of giving children in Liberia a reason to smile. However, we cannot do it alone. Your participation is pivotal in this journey, and here’s why.
Unearthing Smiles in the Gozohn Community
The community of Gozohn, nestled in rural Montserrado, Liberia, is home to numerous children who, until recently, knew not the delight of owning something as simple yet essential as a school backpack or a pair of shoes.
Our passionate team reached out to these children, 122 of them to be exact, and gifted them these fundamental items.
The joy was palpable, the impact profound. Mrs. Youmuo Blojay, a mother of some of the beneficiaries, expressed her gratitude, saying,
“This is the first time for any organization to come into our community to give such items to our children. We are very happy because some of us don’t have the means to get copybooks and book bags for our children. We pray that God will bless all the people who put money together to be able to achieve this.”
Indeed, it was an emotional moment that validated our cause. However, it was also a stark reminder of the countless children who still await our intervention.
The Silent Plea of Hundreds More
While the smiles of the children of Gozohn have served as an affirmation of our endeavors, they have also highlighted the urgency of the situation.
There are hundreds of kids, maybe even thousands, who find it hard to smile because they lack the basic necessities that many of us take for granted.
They stand at the fringe, hoping for intervention, for assistance, for a beacon of light to shine on their path.
