Millions of girls around the world miss school every month because they lack access to menstrual hygiene products? This is not only a health issue, but also a human rights issue. Girls deserve to have dignity, education, and opportunity, regardless of their menstrual cycle.
In Liberia, the situation is even more pronounced. Many girls we work with in schools and orphanages have to stay away from school every month when going through their monthly period. Many of them cannot afford to buy menstrual hygiene products.
Our team has identified one of the biggest challenges to menstrual hygiene is access to sanitary pads during menstrual period, thereby leaving most young girls to use unsafe clothes which cause other sicknesses. Sometimes it leads to girls dropping out of school because they cannot afford a pad to have a safe period🩸 or to feel comfortable.
We are embarking on the first phase of a small program in Liberia – in two (2) orphanages and seven (7) schools to install cupboards as storage for sanitary pads and hygiene kits for girls. There will be a monthly provision of hygiene products kept at the school and orphanages for the girls to use when they need them during the full academic year.
That’s why we are launching the first phase of a fundraising campaign to provide menstrual hygiene pads to girls in schools and orphanages. The goal of the first phase is $1,850. Our overall goal is to raise $7,850, which will enable us to install nine (9) cupboard storage and distribute pads to at least 900 girls every month. We are partnering with local school authorities and proprietors of orphanages to ensure that the pads and kits are delivered safely and effectively.
We need your help to make this happen.
Together, we can end period poverty and empower girls to achieve their full potential. Thank you for your support!
